Weird New Year Statement Dresses & how to wear them

Hello people of stardoll! I'm so sorry its been a while, i've been extremely busy what with christmas and shopping and sales etc.

Ok, I'm sure, like me, you saw the new New Year party dresses and went WTF?!

and then maybe; OMG.

Trust me, you're not alone. I went to the starplaza, saw them and thought Stardoll had gone completely insane.

'No chance am I EVER wearing one of these! Especially to a New Year party!'

Aah, but listen up my friends as I give you a guide to the thought behind these odd dresses.

[from left to right]

#1: The "I'm High Couture" Dress.

On its own, this dress looks utterly hideous. Normally I, or my me-doll for that matter, would not be seen dead in this number. But, (yes there is a massive but) if you put everything together you may think differently. The skirt is a very 'power-dressing' look, so I believe the short sharp bob haircut works brilliantly- feminine but powerful. Because of the neckline, there is no chance of adding a necklace and because the whole dress is so overpowering and eyecatching, SIMPLICITY and MINIMALISTIC are the only things that will work; by not detracting too much attention from the dress itself, but fitting in nicely with it.

So; you need STATEMENT EARRINGS. And because this is a party dress, its jewels and bling all the way. I've chosen chandelier type earrings, as they work well with the straight neckline. Then to cap it off, jewel encrusted heels. Not massive platforms, simple yet elegant.

MAKEUP: Simple but oh-so effective. Blusher detracts so none of that is needed. Ditto lippy. For the face it is au-natural. Eyes however, are a different story. Now this is difficult because we're not trying for that 'goth in the summer' look. I have used a tone of eyeshadow similar to the colour of the dress to balance it out and then on the bottom lid black eyeliner. On the top lid a brown eyeliner pencil completed with volume and lengthening mascara, as well as false eyelashes. (They never hurt a look do they?)

#2: The Stop-and-Stare Dress.

Now simpleness is the key because this is a very 'in your face' gown, and sometimes you really can over-do it. Jewelled stilettos, maybe a matching clutch and chandelier earrings.

The makeup is simple yet chic. Again trying to tone the eyeshadow with the dress colour with black crayon eyeliner on the bottom eye lids, along with a smidge of grey liquid eyeliner and on the top lids blue crayon eyeliner. Topped off with lengthening and volume mascara and false eyelashes. You can also had a hint of light blusher, and natural lip colour.

#3: The Possibly-A-Young-Heiress Look

This is a 'sweet and girly' look, and because its strapless its makes your neck look very bare. So what else can you do other than add some bling?! Perfecto. Complete with chandelier earrings (i would invest in some for all your 'glam looks') diamante heels and a clutch. Easy!

Makeup is a little trickier. To bring out your complexion, (as the dress is a light colour and washes you out) you need a bright, but still au natural coloured lipstick, and rosy blusher.

Most importantly LEAVE YOUR BOTTOM LASHES/LIDS BARE.

Use a pink powder eyeshadow first. Then blend this with the beige eyeshadow crayon. Use both black mascaras; volume and lengthening and then use black crayon eyeliner on the top lids. Use grey liquid eyeliner for the corners. Lastly finish with false eyelashes, or alternatively you could leave them without if necessary.

#4: The 'I'm Over You' Look.

Talk about dramatic. This is definitely one way of saying 'I'm so over you.'

Firstly; you must get one of Stardolls new $1 black bras. It looks just.. eurghh without it. The neckline won't work with a necklace without looking totally ridiculous so just opt for the trusty chandelier earrings, with matching bracelet- as there the neckline doesn't detract from it. Match with a crystallized clutch and jewelled stilettos. Its a completely killer look.

Makeup; Grey powder eyeshadow. Don't use crayon, its just doesnt give the same effect. Use both types of mascara (lengthening and volume- it all adds to the overall appearance.) Black crayon eyeliner teamed with grey liquid eyeliner at the outer and inner corners gives the smoky eyes effect which looks fantastic. Finally you need to give a little colour into this killer look. Rosy blusher ought to do the trick, along with a brighter lipstick. Sephora's Maniac Lipstick 06 is the perfect one. It works with all four looks I have shown you and is still natural, but giving that dab of brighter colour, so that you don't look washed out.

Have a very happy new year and an amazing 2009!

Member Spotlight: Blackmambayeah

December Member Spotlight: Blackmambayeah
So, we've all heard of Singingmermaid and MadMacMom etc. but not so many people know of Blackmambayeah - who is a stunning designer.

Just look at her suite! It's full of gorgeous original and individual designs. She truly deserves credit for all her hard work. My favourite so far has to be her make-up dress; its so cute.

Just have a look at her current Starbazaar. I love her cute christmas designs- snowflakes and all sorts! So why hasn't this girl been nominated for a 'Star Award' ? She should win one outright for best business. And she's also a lovely member- you never see her backstabbing and bitching about other people, scamming or using the loophole cheat.

N E V E R.

I'll tell you why Maggie (Blackmambayeah) hasn't received the recognition she deserves. It's because more Elite members stand in her way, and it's such a shame because her quirky and cute designs are fantastic.

I hate the fact the Stardoll world is divided in such a way.

Happy Happy Happy Christmas!

Will you really be logging into Stardoll on Christmas Day?!

Look what I got through on an email.

(I'm guessing everyone else did aswell)

Now lets be honest; of all the things we do on Christmas Day are we really going to have time to LOG IN TO STARDOLL?

Hmm. Yes. Christmas Day- #1 thing to remember: log into website to get gift.

I think not.

This is really inconsiderate. Christmas (or just the Holidays for non-christmas celebrating members) is a time for families, giving ande sharing. Not to mention a big roast dinner.

So amongst the festive telly, watching presents be unwrapped, eating a massive meal and playing charades with your family we will not have time to log in. It is ridiculous.

Seriously though, I won't have time during the day, but knowing me I always wake up around 3 in the morning so I might just log in then haha. After all, it will still be the 25th December.

Happy Christmas!

New Year Spoilers.

Look away now if you don't want to see!

----------------------------------------

Well, well, well. Stardoll is treating us.

Looks like we'll be getting new sets of interior for the New Year. (Also known as 2009.)

This one above is definitely a New Years Eve one, with a window overlooking fireworks that are going off above New York City skyscrapers. Although, it looks suspiciously like it has been based on the minimalistic interior that was released last year. But I'm willing to forgive Stardoll for this- I'm a sucker for fireworks.

It's animated, so you don't really get the full gist of the interior from the picture; so heres the link.

This other new interior looks like a very cute alpine wooden chalet.
Very cosy looking. I'm liking it. It'll look a bit odd come summer though..
But then again, there are loads of cute accessories that are going with this..

Oh the ways in which Stardoll get us to spend our money! You heard it here first.

They have got to be Joking.

Apparently we need to 'get ready for more.'
Superstars are getting more rooms.
Hurrah. Not.Firstly, HOW UNFAIR is it that non-superstars get absolutely zilch, whilst superstars get way more than they need? I don't need any more rooms thank you. I've had enough trouble with the ones I've already got.I haven't even decorated all of those - I can't afford to decorate them.

AAAAAARRRRRGHHHHH.

This is just another ploy to get us to spend more money on something we don't actually need. I think instead of doing what they want we should just not decorate our rooms, instead lock them so no-one can see them. That's what I'll be doing.
Seriously, the room thing is starting to be a joke. One day I will probably flip out and just trash my suite, in a virtual stardoll temper tantrum.

But hey hum, its the eve of christmas eve today!

Err, I swear I'm having Deja Vu.

Right, I'm guessing I'm not the only one who's thinking they've seen alot of these dresses about 20 million times already.
I know for a fact the Posh dress had been brought out 3 times. Ditto the Kelly dress. And the orangey dress with white furry trimmings was brought out last year.
I'm sure I'm also seeing a Kate Nash Valentines day dress. Erm, yes let me repeat that - VALENTINES DAY.

Not that I'm complaining about the Starplaza recent additions; the Elizabeth & James collection was nice (a bit overpriced, but hey some of them were nice pieces. I myself bought the Highland Blouse and Slouchy Grey Blazer) and the ELLE Collection is fabberooney. Again slightly overpriced.
The Decades and Bisou shops are gorgey (British teen word for gorgeous, my foreign friends) but I have no idea whats going on with this Limited Edition collection.
Its such a coincidence that all the Elites have nearly every piece! Wow, I'm in a state of shock.
Firstly, it's such a rip off. Who in their right mind would pay $225 for a very unflattering pink dress, or $150 for mesh-holed sandals that I would rather burn than wear?

Plus nothing is ever available. I must admit, the sequin tights and cut-out leggings are very nice, along with the zip and gem ankle high heeled boots but even if I made the money, I don't think I could convince myself to spend it on that.
However, (I may be going slightly mad) if I did have $200 stardollars to fritter away, one item from the Limited Edition collection that may be worth it is the Leather Jacket.

My my my it is freaking GORGEY. I envy any person that has it.
But then again, I already have a perfectly lovely Jordache leather jacket- and I've hardly worn it!
But back to the original subject (I get so easily distracted, sorry.)
It's not as if the 'New' items were even that popular to start with. I certainly wouldn't pay $8 for any of them. To be honest I'd rather save it up for that LE Motorcycle jacket. (Haha, I wish!)
Stardoll must be hard up for new ideas.

Oooh. New Hotbuys and Topshop on Stardoll!

As reveiled in a Spoiler post by stardollfashionforward.wordpress.com
These are next months Hotbuys;

I actually cannot wait! I'm so excited, because I'm already spying a Herve Leger dress (a favourite designer for Cheryl Cole and Victoria Beckham), Jimmy Choo shoes, Juicy Couture coat, Pucci earmuffs, Coach bag and not to mention, my favourite store- a TOPSHOP Tux Delux!
For more info/pictures please have a look on stardollfashionforward.wordpress.com

I swear Stardoll must have to pay royalties or something, unless they can get away with the fact the Topshop Tux isn't an exact design by Topshop. Look, its even got the Tux delux label - aw, sweet.

The Stardoll Topshop Tux is a mixture of these two designs.
It had the stripes of the red tux, but is pink in colour, like the leopard tux (shown on the right.)
Anyway, we can expect the new Hotbuys to be out sometime in January, and before anyone else says anything- I'm betting those purple metallic leggings are by American Apparel.

Hello, welcome & the first Elite Rant starts now.

Firstly I'd like to say welcome to your newest Stardoll blog, and Merry Christmas.
I've just signed up to blogspot, (usually you cannot stop me from talking, but I've been very restrained on stardoll) and have decided this is the time to start voicing my opinions.

Stardoll was a lovely community, where all members got along and hardly anyone was superstar. Most clothes in the Shop (there was no Starplaza - it simply didn't exist) were non-superstar and everyone- non-superstars, superstars etc. got one free broadcast a month.
But now, the Elites are all that stardoll seems to be about. There is a constant battle with this 'exclusive' grouping of a few members that are 'stardoll rich.' And on quite a few blogs there is constant bitching about them, which I think is quite unfair. These are people that can afford to spend hundreds of pounds (you might say dollars, but I'm English so I'm afraid its the British Pound (£) on this blog) on stardoll.

Alot of the people on stardoll aren't real actually. I myself have come across many fake 'celebrities' and I won't even get started on the load of 'pregnant teenagers.' Seriously guys, we're not 6 year olds. We don't believe you, so please spare yourself the time and just not bother to make up all that crap.
Other than fake members, I adore stardoll. The dolls are great, the graphics are amazing and its the perfect place if - like me - you love both fashion, celebrities, shopping and meeting different people from all over the world. It's great to discover different peoples cultures and though its a virtual world it's also a great place to escape to - especially when you've had a tiring day at school.
Stardoll is a great place to just be yourself and that's what I love doing most. I mean, most of these 'elites' are actually nice when you get to know them. But you do come across a select few that think they are higher class than everyone else.
In reality, they're just normal girls who like to escape to the virtual world of stardoll, just like you and me.

So, as someone 'sitting on the fence' of this arguement (on neither side of it) I reckon we should just stop bitching about the elites and give them a chance. After all, it's hardly their fault if they can afford to spend loads of money on a virtual website.
